Some Things Old-Some Things New

Harvest is in full swing here in NW Indiana so the long hours have begun here in the elevator. Working 7 days leaves not much time for quilting but since I am an early riser I get in at least an hour of sewing a day. I take what I can get at this time of year.
I wanted to show an old quilt that I did back in the early 80's when I was really getting into quilting. This took me alot of time but it was worth it. I made it out of scrap and quilted the motifs in pink thread. I usually keep it in my quilt chest but I pull it out periodically to just look at it and remember when....

This next picture is filled with tons of memories! The "boot" picture was done in pencil in art when my son was in high school. The tennis shoe picture my youngest daughter drew. The bear is made out of an old quilt and it is sitting on an old sewing machine cabinet that does have a machine in it that my husband bought at a yard sale many years ago. Someday maybe we will get it restored. The quilts under the bear aren't that old but they look it. Many, many memories.
The something new is my OTR quilt. I funished putting the flying geese border on it last night and cut the final border this morning after church and before work. I hope to attach it tonight when I get home. This quilt is made entirely out of Halloween fabric and is a little bright but it is growing on me. I just can't seem to get this stuff used up, I think it is haunted and just keeps multiplying!!
I am missing blogging right now but try and check as many sights as I can when I get a chance. Everyone that is going through harvest I wish them abundance and safety and hope to catch up on all of you when it is all over. :D

I love your quilts. As a kid I would visit my neighbor who maid quilts. She showed me her quilt and the rack it was on. But I assume she thought I was to young to learn. Have a great day.

The OTR is fabulous. The pencil drawings by your kiddos are perfect. I love pencil drawings..so much more detail goes into them. Is harvest over when the Hunter's Moon festival takes place?

Love your OTR! I need to get busy on mine. Thought about you often as we drove home from Linda G's daughter's wedding in Nashville. Seemed as though every other field was being harvested. I'm surprised you don't have to sleep at the elevator!

oh WOW!!!! That quilt from the 80's is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I don't know if I would have the patience to hand-quilt a large quilt----this baby quilt I'm hand-quilting might eventually get done....SOMEDAY!

Looking forward to your next post when you have the chance :0) Happy harvest!

A really lovely post - all very sentimental! Love your 80's quilt (there is nothing like hand-quilting, though it's not for everything).
You certainly are "making hay while the sun shines" - Good Girl - more money for fabric!
Hugs - Lurline.

The fan quilt is lovely! I've machine quilted most of my Qs, but also enjoy hand-quilting. Yours looks lovely! Harvest here is a bit behind yours...for the most part, the corn and beans are only beginning to yellow and dry down.

Thanks for finding the time to drop by my blog...and entering my giveaway! 8-)
Lovely quilting on your fan quilt, the drawing of the work-boots is very well done. Your son is very talented. I see you have followed Bonnie's Tobacco Roads Mystery... Nicely done! I have to catch up on my UFOs before I commit to a Mystery, but I hope to soon! 8-)
Happy stitching, good harvest, and good luck! 8-)

Your "haunted" halloween fabric looks great in that quilt! Can't wait to see it finished.
